After 2 months of yoga, I am much more flexible.  The morning class gives me more energy for the rest of the day. 
The afternoon classes are a great way to distress and unwind.  I think the yoga at Kempo Fitness is a good compliment
to my martial arts training, giving me not only additional flexibility, but also helping increase my strength as well.  It is very gratifying to see my progress from week to week.

Meet The Instructors

Mr Bartlett

Glen, owner and instructor, has been wrestling and doing martial arts since he was 6 years old and he has been with United  Studios for over 14 years.  An avid fitness buff, he loves the challenge, focus, strength and agility that martial arts requires and the fact  that you can continually improve.  In addition, he believes in the respect, self-control, and character that martial arts teaches you.  Glen is a huge believer in training so that you can defend yourself and your loved ones with the idea that you will hopefully never actually have to use it.  In fact, he often says that the longer you train, the less you actually have to do.  Glen specializes in teaching Kempo, Jiu Jitsu, and Tai Chi and his favorite part of the martial arts...sparring!  Glen is also in charge  of our Instructor Academy Program. Glen truly loves sharing the martial arts with others and his favorite part about teaching is watching his students grow in the martial arts.

Sensei Janell

Janell, owner and instructor, has been teaching individuals for 18 years and martial arts for the last 11 years, having earned her 3rd Degree Black Belt in 2013 with USSD.  After spending the years working with personal trainers and training 5 hours a day for competitive figure skating, she knows how the body works and what to do to get you moving, flexible, fit, toned, and feeling your best.  Janell first joined with United Studios because of the personal training, the empowerment, and the fact that there was always more to learn; she loved being challenged and feeling like she was a better person after each session.  Now, Janell loves helping others have the same experience.  Specializing in teaching Kempo, Tai Chi, Cardio Kickboxing, and self defense seminars, she will whip your body into shape and get you having FUN while doing it.



Sensei Karen

Karen has studied martial arts for 12 years:  Judo, Aikido, Kung Fu, and Kempo.  She has been with United Studios of Self Defense for 8 years; teaching Kempo and Tai Chi for 6 years.  She earned her Black Belt, 1st  Degree, in 2009 from the Shaolin Temple in Zhengzhou, Henan, China.  She recently earned her Black Belt, 2nd Degree.

She has studied Yoga for 14 years, doing Masters of Ed. Work in Brain Based learning research and Yoga-Meditation.  She was certified in Tan-tra Yoga by Master of Yoga Kirin Shankar Yogacharya from Nepal.  She taught children's Yoga for 5 years and currently teaches Yoga with Kempo Fitness.

When asked what her inspiration has been, she replied, "I have always been inspired by martial artists and yoga practitioners; the command they have of their body, mind, and spirit is beautiful stuff."


Sensei Emily


 

Emily Endo began her training in Chicago where she taught for 4 years before joining the Kansas City team. Emily has been teaching in Kansas City for 2 years. Emily has been training with USSD for 6 years and recently earned her 2nd Degree Black Belt in 2013. Emily teaches Kempo Martial Arts, Cardio Kickboxing, and Tai Chi. She enjoys watching her students grow and learn with each step of their training. She loves to help her students achieve and exceed their goals.

Sensei Nick

 

Nick is believes & is passionate about continuous growth through out life. He found his journey in the martials to improve both mentally and physically.

 


Sensei Jay

Jay is a part-time instructor for Kempo Fitness.  He took Karate for about a year when he was eight years old.  Jay has been training with United Studios for 5 years  and teaching Kempo and a little Tai Chi for two years.  Jay is also a member of the Instructor Academy so he can refine his training as a student and as an instructor.  He really enjoys watching his students improve their lives and grow in the martial arts.
